Expertise & Services
As Review Counsel at Rubin Thomlinson, Janina works with the firm’s investigators in planning and writing reports.
As our clients’ internal workplace investigators prepare reports, Janina reviews and scrutinizes them closely, helping to ensure that they are not only legally defensible, but also sound and well-reasoned.
In addition, Janina conducts investigations herself. She works in both the public and private sectors to investigate cases of discrimination as well as professional and ethical misconduct.
Janina has more than 15 years of experience in human rights, including litigation, policy, and training. In addition to experience in coaching and training legal professionals, she has managed cases and inquiries involving race and gender discrimination, gender identity and expression, racial profiling, harassment, sexual violence, disability accommodation, and labour and employment law across many sectors.
As senior legal counsel and legal manager at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre, Janina managed a team of lawyers and litigated cases before Ontario’s Human Rights Tribunal and Divisional Court. In addition to past work with the Ontario Human Rights Commission and a leading labour law firm in Toronto, Janina has volunteered her time as a legal program committee member with the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), and as an advocacy co-coordinator with Human Rights Watch Canada.
Janina is also fluent in Latvian.
