Catherine Maheu is a graduate of McGill University’s Faculty of Law (B.C.L., LL.B. 1993) and holds a Master’s Degree in Law from Columbia University in New York (LL.M. 1996). Before beginning work with Rubin Thomlinson LLP, she practiced Labour and Employment Law for more than 20 years with a large, full-service firm in Montreal.
Employers in all economic sectors, whether provincially or federally regulated, have called on Ms. Maheu’s legal expertise because of her proven ability to understand their business and organizational objectives, as well as the many challenges they face. Her pragmatic approach to finding practical and strategic solutions to the increasingly complex issues facing the labour market today have made her a trusted advisor.
In addition to the day to day strategic advice to management in all areas of Labour and Employment Law, Ms. Maheu’s practice includes collective bargaining, appearing as counsel before arbitration tribunals, the Canada Labour Relations Board or the Tribunal administratif du travail, and providing advice with respect to human resources policies and employment contracts. She has also acquired extensive experience advising clients in matters involving pension plans, labour issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations and downsizings, and in the context of the turnaround of businesses facing bankruptcy or insolvency.
Ms. Maheu is fluently bilingual and has received many awards and academic distinctions. She has published numerous articles in her area of expertise, and is frequently invited to deliver training or speak on subjects related to Labour and Employment Law.
